How to Find Time to Exercise with Kids

When you have kids, finding time to exercise can be tricky…but nevertheless we can always find time for the things that are important. After reading this blog post, I hope you walk away feeling inspired and confident that you too can find time to start moving more even with having little ones.

I am the proud father of a 5 year old princess and a 10 month old prince who both demand a lot of fun and family time all the time, so I have to get creative when it comes to exercising. So, now I am going to share one of my workout days with you all.

My family usually gets up around 6:30AM to start getting ready for school. After we take my daughter to school, my 10 month old is ready for his morning play time, and then after that comes the nap we all know we both need haha. After nap time, we start getting ready for our walk in the neighborhood. First, I make sure I change his clothes and diaper, then next I pack his baby bag, grab his fan, and get myself ready. After 45 minutes of prep work haha, we head outside to get his stroller and grab my tennis racket from the car (my protection haha).

We walked for a mile to the playground, and I let him swing. Then we walked a mile back to the house. We live on a mountain, so we have some good hills to climb. Usually he is asleep when we get back, so I open up the garage and I do a workout. Here is the workout below:

***Please check with your doctor before starting any new workout routine***

2x Bicep curls 20 alternating each side (I use 20lb dumbbells but use what is good for you)

2x Jump rope for 1 minute or do jumping jacks

2x Run down my driveway and back

2x 10 pushups on my workout mat

2x 20 high knee raises to engage my core

2x Hammer curls 20 alternating each side (I use 20lb dumbbells but use what is good for you)

2x Jump rope for 1 minute or do jumping jacks

2x Run down my driveway and back

2x 10 pushups on my workout mat

2x 20 high knee raises to engage my core

Then later that evening when my wife made it home, I went to a local park and ran a mile to finish the day off. The point of me sharing all of this is to encourage you to get moving. Some days I take my dogs to an open, fenced in field and let them run, and I kick the soccer ball around. Other days I may go play tennis or basketball. Whatever your jam is, do more of it and get those steps in. Always remember to stay hydrated, listen to your body, and stretch before and after each workout! Have fun!
